5 Reasons to Give a Shelter Pet a Home for Christmas

#Pets #Animals #Dogs #Cats #Shelters #NoKillShelter #Humane #Rescue #RescueAnimal #Puppies #Kittens

A loving home is the greatest gift of all, and it's one that you can give to a shelter pet who needs it. Puppies and kittens are on a lot of Christmas lists, but choosing an older rescue animal is an act of kindness that benefits both the lucky pet and his new humans. Here are a few reasons to give a lonely creature in a shelter near you a second chance at a happy home.

Special thanks to Sophie Gamand for the use of these photos from her Instagram account in this post. Sophie uses her photography talents to help rescue pets find loving homes.

The cutie shown here is named Jessica. She's from New York, and she does well in a calm, single-human home with no pets.

#TheCoffeeCup #Music #Guitar #OpenMic #OpenMicNight #Video #YouTube #Coffee #Acoustic #Cover #ArtsAndCrafts #Entertainment
A local coffee place had open mic night in November, and I got to play a few songs there. There was great music, great coffee, and overall it was just a lot of fun. Here are a few videos of some of the music I played that night.

DON'T Use Facebook Live for your Live Stream Unless...

I recently tried live streaming on Facebook, and it let me down for a number of reasons. While I can see how it can be useful under certain circumstances, there are a few things you should be mindful of that you might not have expected. If you'd like to know what to look out for, and whether Facebook Live is right for you, read on.

Trying Tofu - Is It Really Like Meat?

#Tofu #Veggie #Vegetarian #Cooking #VegetarianMeals #GoVeggie #MeatlessMeal #NewFoods #Culinary #Food #Foodie
       How to prepare tofu:
Step 1: Throw it in the trash.
            Step 2: Grill a steak.

Just kidding! Not too long ago, I tried tofu. It was my first time cooking it, and my first time eating it outside of miso soup. Now, I'm a major meat-lover, so anything that claims to be "just like the real thing" is met with extreme skepticism. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a go.

Age-Appropriate YouTube for kids -- Frozen Playlist

#Frozen #Elsa #LetItGo #Kids #YouTube #AgeAppropriate #FamilyFriendly #ForKids #Princess #Pixar #Entertainment
Are you a parent whose kids like to watch YouTube? Wait. Let me rephrase that. Are you a parent who lets your kids watch YouTube? If you are, then you're probably both amazed by the sheer wealth of children's video clips available, and slightly terrified by what some people come up with. If they're not closely monitored, kids can think they're clicking on an innocent Elsa video, and wind up stumbling upon Elsa's Drunk Rampage (Yes it exists. Don't search that if you're not 18. NSFW).

That's why I threw together my first YouTube for Kids playlist. Each one will have a theme, and contain enough videos to last at least an hour. That way, you can know the kids are watching something safe without having to run back and forth to the computer every two or three minutes. The theme for this one is Frozen; but I plan to make many more in the future, including ones for Sesame Street and Star Wars.

The playlist is called Frozen Songs & More for Kids, and runs for about 90 minutes. Here's what's inside it:

Ukulele Cover - Positively 4th Street

#Music #Uke # Ukulele #BobDylan #Cover #Song #Video #YouTube #Tribute #Positively4thStreet #Art&Crafts
This is a cover of a Bob Dylan song called Positively 4th Street. It's one of my favorites because it's all about being a realist when it comes to fake friends. I chose it as my first Ukulele cover because it was a spur-of-the-moment thing, and I think the uke is a great spur-of-the-moment instrument. You can find the original version of Positively 4th Street on Google Play, here.

Crochet a Beret Without Counting Stitches

 #How-To #Crochet #Hats #RaspberryBeret #Lifehack #Cheat #CountingStitches #Fashion #FiberArts #Yarn #ArtAndCrafts
I posted this crocheted beret a while ago on Instagram. What you may not know, is that I made it using a technique with which you don't need to count stitches!

Crocheting a circle without counting stitches!? That's ridiculous, right? Want to see how I did it? Read on, and crochet along!

CHEAT at Making Onigiri Rice Balls!

#food #cooking #rice #beef #onigiri #lifehack #howto #foodie #cheat #easy #japanesefood
Onigiri is basically rice balls stuffed with a filling, such as meat. The Japanese dish is typically molded by hand, and served as part of a bento box, or other meal. A while back, I linked to a video on how to make them, but eventually, I ended up finding a way to cheat. The result is an equally delicious (though slightly different-shaped) rice ball with a quicker prep-time, and easy clean-up.

Crocheted Bicycle Cap

#FiberArts #Yarn #Yarnstagram #WearableArt #Crochet #Crocheting #OnTheHook #Fashion #HowTo #WIP #FinishedProduct
We may be looking at yarn, but what I see is potential! A wild WIP appeared on my Instagram last night, and gradually formed itself into a cute bicycle cap made from the yarn shown here. Well, I helped it just a little.

It was crafted mostly on-the-fly, with a basic design in mind. The pictures show how it went from fiber to fashion. If you'd like to see the transformation, read on! I'm going to show you how I did it.

Striving to make healthier food choices is something everyone should do, but it can be hard to stay on track. A diet is more than just what you eat; it's when, how, and why you eat. While some of these factors may be based on necessity, many of them are based on habit. Changing habits isn't just about willpower; it's about forming new patterns of behavior, and tricking your brain into avoiding the old ones that get you in trouble. With a few simple, habit-busting brain hacks, you can make it easier to stay on track with your diet.

Online Art Theft & You

DISCLAIMER: This article is for entertainment and educational purposes only, and is not intended as legal advice. Please consult a lawyer before taking any legal actions.

Any artist or writer posting her work on the internet knows that that kind of exposure is a double-edged sword. On one hand, you can potentially reach hundreds, thousands, or even (if you're lucky) millions of viewers in a way that's much more convenient and cost-effective than traditional media. On the other hand, it's incredibly easy to have your work ripped off, or even outright stolen. So how can an artist keep from being cut out of the deal? And how can we spot online art theft when it happens?
