The faithful sketchbook is where many fashion designs begin and end. This design, however, was lucky enough to make its way into the real world. If you'd like to see this handmade creation, and compare it to the concept sketch that preceded it, please read on.
The design was inspired by the fabric itself-- roughly a yard and a half of blueish-green velvet. What came of it was a backless dress supported by two chains fastened in the back, and a stiff, U-shape wire running through the back hem.The steel hardware chains are fastened by handmade copper hooks, similar to what's used to fasten the belt in the front. The bodice is lined with cotton for a seamless finish around the neckline. The whole thing took around four or five hours to make, and I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
