5 Reasons to Give a Shelter Pet a Home for Christmas

#Pets #Animals #Dogs #Cats #Shelters #NoKillShelter #Humane #Rescue #RescueAnimal #Puppies #Kittens

A loving home is the greatest gift of all, and it's one that you can give to a shelter pet who needs it. Puppies and kittens are on a lot of Christmas lists, but choosing an older rescue animal is an act of kindness that benefits both the lucky pet and his new humans. Here are a few reasons to give a lonely creature in a shelter near you a second chance at a happy home.

Special thanks to Sophie Gamand for the use of these photos from her Instagram account in this post. Sophie uses her photography talents to help rescue pets find loving homes.

The cutie shown here is named Jessica. She's from New York, and she does well in a calm, single-human home with no pets.

Trying Tofu - Is It Really Like Meat?

#Tofu #Veggie #Vegetarian #Cooking #VegetarianMeals #GoVeggie #MeatlessMeal #NewFoods #Culinary #Food #Foodie
       How to prepare tofu:
Step 1: Throw it in the trash.
            Step 2: Grill a steak.

Just kidding! Out of curiosity, I tried tofu. It was my first time cooking it, and my first time eating it outside of miso soup. Now, I'm a major meat-lover, so anything that claims to be "just like the real thing" is met with extreme skepticism. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a go.

CHEAT at Making Onigiri Rice Balls!

#food #cooking #rice #beef #onigiri #lifehack #howto #foodie #cheat #easy #japanesefood
Onigiri is basically rice balls stuffed with a filling, such as meat. The Japanese dish is typically molded by hand, and served as part of a bento box, or other meal. A while back, I linked to a video on how to make them, but eventually, I ended up finding a way to cheat. The result is an equally delicious (though slightly different-shaped) rice ball with a quicker prep-time, and easy clean-up.

Allergies are really just a big misunderstanding. They happen when a foreign material (say, pollen) is mistaken for something harmful. Your body thinks it's being attacked, so your immune system fights back with antibodies to kill the invader. It's these reactions that cause the irritation, runny/stuffy nose, and scratchy throats associated with allergies.

Like most things that ail the human body, this, too, can be fought with food! Here, you can learn how the ten readily-available foods featured on this list could help fight your seasonal allergies. In addition to this, I've included a list of seven allergy-fighting ingredients, and the foods that contain them; as well as a list of what foods to avoid to keep from triggering specific allergies. Curious how your diet can affect your hay fever? Read on!
